Abstract

Strain distribution near the crack tip of Raman-inactive Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) was measured by Raman spectroscopy. A PbO thin film was deposited on the measured surface of the specimen by physical vapor deposition (PVD). The results agree well with those obtained by conventional experimental methods and FEM analysis. The proposed method allows to investigate fracture toughness of Raman-inactive materials.
