Abstract

We construct the network model of the striatal medium-sized spiny neurons (MS neurons) within anatomical and physiological constraints in order to understand the cortical control of the striatal activity and the functional organization of the striatum. In our model, the MS neurons receive inputs from the different cortical channels showing the different spike statistics. The membrane coherence and spike coincidence in pairs of the MS model neurons are in good agreement with the values from double intracellular recodingdata of the MS neuron. We also mention the effectiveness of lateral inhibition between the MS neurons within our model. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
