Abstract

The formation of a periodically layered structure in AB/X ternary diffusion couple is described. According to the proposed model, the final AX and BXproducts are formed via two different reaction schemes periodically switching from one to the other once the supersaturation required for the nucleation of the corresponding compound has been reached.
