Abstract

The kinetics of 2.3-butanediol oxidation on a polycrystalline gold electrode has been studied in the temperature range from T = 293 K to T = 323 K. It has been shown that the relative surface coverage with the organic species and OH- ions determines the reaction pathway. The adsorptive behavior of the substrate molecules and intermediates was identified by changes in the differential capacitance of the double laver at the gold-alkaline electrolyte-solution interface.
