Abstract

Clinical and biochemical assessment of 45 subjects with low (<36 mg/dl) and high (>60 mg/dl) plasma levels of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL CH) allowed to distinguish the following variants of low HDL CH: with high total cholesterol (group 1), with high triglycerides (group 2), isolatedwithout hyperlipidemia (group 3). Ten patients with high (>60 mg/dl) plasma HDL CH comprised group 4. Patients with ischemic heart disease prevailed in all groups their proportion being highest in groups 1 (76%) and 4 (80%). Patients with predominant cerebrovascular insufficiency were more frequentin groups 2 (38%) and 3 (40%). The paper contains descriptions of clinicalcases of coronary and cerebral atherosclerosis in the presence of high HDLCH.
