Abstract

In developing a perpendicular recording head, writability, head induced erasure and head skew problem are major concerns for achieving 100 Gbpsi recording. Sufficient overwrite performance of the single-pole head with a trackwidth down to 0.26 mum and clear MFM images of 0.16 mum recorded signals were obtained. Furthermore, high stray field robustness was realized with a newly designed head accompanied by a high head efficiency. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
