Abstract

Eucalyptus and pine pulps of kappa 16-17 and 26-27, respectively, were produced by the kraft and kraft-polysulphide (X-PS) processes and ECF bleached. K-PS pulps were manufactured with variable PS concentrations. Polysulphides (PS) improved yield (up to 4% for pine) due to higher mannans and xylansretention. Yield increased with increasing PS concentration. PS improved pulp viscosity and refinability but had no effect on strength properties. PSalso improved pulp bleachability with ECF sequences.
