Abstract

Based on a simplified dynamic model and the entropy balance equation, by describing the energy and moisture exchange between oasis and desert, the characteristics of the oasis-desert interaction are studied dynamically and thermodynamically. The dependence of the oasis evaporation rate on the oasiswetness and the oasis scale is revealed. The results show that the oasis scale and oasis wetness are two key dominant factors controlling the cold island effect. A smallest critical oasis scale for maintaining and developingoasis is obtained.
