Abstract

Single crystalline (0001) Sm. films have been elaborated by molecular beamepitaxy. Depending on elaboration parameters, the stacking sequence of close packed planes along the c-axis can be either of Sm-type or DHCP, as shown by X-ray scattering experiments. Magnetization measurements performed fortwo typical samples with different crystal structures reveal a magnetic ordering temperature of 22 K in the DHCP film, whereas it is close to the value expected from the bulk element (14 K) in the Sm-type film.
