Abstract

Monometallic acetonitrile complexes [M(MeCN)(4)][BF4](2) (M = Mn-II, Fe-II, Co-II, Ni-II, Cr-II and Zn-II) have been immobilized onto the surface of purely siliceous MCM-41 and tested for their activity as initiators for cyclopentadiene polymerization. The integrity of the MCM-41 hexagonal mesoporous structure in the modified materials was verified by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and N-2-adsorption measurements. FTIR spectroscopy suggests thatthe acetonitrile complexes do not undergo significant changes during the fixation process. The heterogenized M2+ complexes catalyze the polymerization of cyclopentadiene but their activity is lower than that of the complexesin the homogeneous phase.
