Abstract

An atomic oxygen beam yields highly ordered surface structures and metallic feature with high electronic density of states at the Fermi level in high-T-c superconductor film. We performed scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) measurements for YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) film treated with an atomic oxygen beam. In the measurement of a cleaned YBCO(0 0 1) film, STS results obtained around flat areas show spatially uniform V-shaped gap structures. On the other hand, STS results obtained around roughened areas show complicated structures that suggest the presence of interference effect induced by surface roughness in d(x2-y2)-wave superconductor.
