Abstract

Given its powerful discrimination capability. color is widely used in image analysis and pattern recognition, to extract information from chromatic pictures. This paper describes a new quantitative color application. which uses interference colors rather than fringes. This method is well adapted tothe analysis of biological samples. The aim is to extract the thickness from colors produced in natural light while respecting the biological structure. Experimental results are presented. A new relationship between color and biological thickness is expressed through three-dimensional curves. An analysis of this function is also given. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
