Abstract

A Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is modeled as impedance compensation is and applied to a system consisting of a single machine connected to infinite bus via parallel transmission lines. This paper presents the dynamicand steady state performance of a Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) based (UPFC) operates as impedance compensation. In addition, the optimum position farthe system is investigated. It has been illustrated that the UPFC installation location plays an important role in effecting nonlinearly the UPFC steady state performance. The simulation results also shows that the effectiveness of the UPFC controller to control both the active and reactive power flows. Furthermore, the designing and simulation of the digital control circuit using a fuzzy logic controller for the above system have been carried out using the Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP). The dynamic performance in terms of speed, stability, accuracy, robustness and simplicity of this type of controller applied to such a system has been tested.
