Abstract

Higher than expected bleaching costs led Lo an examination of washing practices at the Celgar Pulp mill. The objectives of washing and the selection of the test compound(s) are discussed. A solution is presented to the problems of displacement ratio calculations when the dilution factor is negative, or when multiple showers are present Mill experience in the testing and washing efficiency is described, including laboratory work that calculated the cost of carryover from various stages.
