Abstract

Varroa on its original host, the Eastern honey bee, Apis ceranaa, is considered an insignificant pest, It did not become a concern to beekeepers until it made the cross species jump to the Western (European) honey bee, Apis mellifera, If is an amazing story; how this tiny mite evolved into an independent parasite and became a major pest to spread almost worldwide with such a destructive impact.
