Abstract

Strongly localized electric fields were measured in the central cathode Heplasma core region of an Inertial-Electrostatic Confinement Fusion (IECF) device by using the laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) method as well as plasma core diameter to examine their correlations. It was found that the FWHM, of plasma core diameter increases slightly with the increasing ion beam perveance. Comparison of the intensity profile ofthe plasma core is made with that of the electric quadrupole moment (QDP) component. For the cases of potential profiles with one peak, the peak positions show good correspondence with each other, while the profiles themselves are vastly different to each other.
