Abstract

Insulin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has beennoted and concerns raised as to the increased risk of remote adverse clinical consequences for these individuals. Mechanisms of insulin resistance including obesity are mentioned and use of other medications to improve insulin sensitivity are reviewed. The appropriateness of using insulin sensitizing medications to treat women with PCOS is also discussed.
