Abstract

Self-monitoring in carbon fiber reinforced mortar was demonstrated byAC impedance measurement. The reactance X-s was found to be a more sensitive indicator of strain than the resistance R-s. The fractional increase in X-s was 38 at compressive failure, while the fractional increase in R-s was 23, for mortar with methylcellulose, silica fume and fibers (0.35 vol.%).
