Abstract

We have found two isoforms of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor4E (eIF4E) in Xenopus laevis. These proteins differ in length by 18 amino acids. Overexpression of either of the two eIF4E proteins modestly increasetranslation in Xenopus oocytes. The results suggest that both of these twoisoforms function in translation.
