Abstract

We report the demonstration of a widely tunable distributed Bragg reflector laser that uses a dynamic holographic grating mirror to set the lasing wavelength. This mirror is created by using an argon-ion laser to write refractive index gratings into a CdF2:Ga crystal in a standard two-beam interference arrangement. The laser has demonstrated tunability over a 20-nm spectral range and is capable, in principle, of tuning over the entire bandwidth of the gain medium.
