Abstract

The lattice parameters of rhombohedral graphite-like boron nitride (rBN) have been measured in the 298-1073 K temperature range to 6.1 GPa using energy- and angle-dispersive powder diffraction with synchrotron radiation. From the obtained p-V-T data thermoelastic parameters of rBN were derived by fitting a modified high-temperature Birch-Murnaghan equation of state. The results are: bulk modulus B-0 (GPa) = 32.8 - 0.0056(T(K) - 298), its pressure derivative B' = 6.2, and volumetric thermal expansion alpha (0) (K-1) = a+ b x T (K) with values of a = 3.61 x 10(-5) K-1 and b = 0.43 x 10(-8) K-2.
