Abstract

We experimentally and numerically investigate cross-phase modulation (XPM)induced intensity interference in a wavelength-division-multiplexed transmission system employing non-return to zero format and return to zero formatwith different duty cycles. Optimal duty cycles with minimum XPM-induced intensity interference are obtained for different transmission fiber types and channel rates. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
