Abstract

Supratentorial gliomas are gliomas grade II to IV (Glioma grade II, Anaplastic Glioma grade III, Glioblastoma multiforme grade IV WHO). When clinically suspected, they can be tentatively diagnosed by imaging methods. Surgical removal is recommended as a rule. If this is not possible, neuropathological confirmation of the diagnosis must be attempted. The microsurgical technique is considered a standard today, but the stereotactic approach may be an alternative. For gliomas of grade III and IV, postoperative radiation isrequired. Additional chemotherapy is recommended especially for gliomas grade III, but also for those of grade IV depending on the patient's condition. The postoperative conventional radiation in gliomas grade II is recommended only reluctantly in defined cases. In small sized tumours, interstitialirradiation may be useful. For chemotherapy different protocols are available; the PVC combination was recently recommended for malignant gliomas, especially for the oligodendroglioma grade III variety. This paper has been developed as a minimal consensus report of varies disciplines; a summary canonly be a rough overview. Details must be taken from the text itself.
