Abstract

The central role played by mononuclear phagocytes in the pathogenesisof tuberculosis has been known for a century, The molecular events that mediate interactions between these host cells and the causative bacterium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis are, however, incompletely understood. The host-adapted M. tuberculosis has developed several strategies for entry, survival, and growth in these cells.
