Abstract

We have investigated the optical properties of the perovskite manganites that show the colossal magnetoresistance and/or charge/orbital ordering. Ourdata show that their spectral weights can change quite drastically with the temperature and magnetic field. These spectral weight changes can be explained in terms of the double-exchange and the polaron interactions. Moreover, we have found experimental evidence that for half-doped manganites, the metal-insulator transitions which are due to the melting of charge/orbital ordering occur through a percolative phase transition.
