Abstract

This research investigated the influence of cyclic loading on wooden framehouse structures. The shaking table test was conducted on a model of a one-story wooden frame structure (4P x 4P) with braces which are connected with metal connectors. The amplitude of the shaking table was kept constant at2.5 cm, whereas the frequencies were increased from 0.4 Hz to 3.0 Hz in increments of 0. 13 Hz to increase the deformation cycle of the structure. From transition analysis of axial force-deflection curves, the results are obtained as follows:1) Degradation of the shear wall with braces is more significant under tension stress than under compression stress.2) Degradation of the shear wall with braces becomes significant when the apparent deformation of the shear wall is larger than 1/240 rad on both sides where the brace is under tension and compression stress.3) Degradation of the shear wall with braces becomes significant when the axial force of the brace on the tension side is larger than 200 kgf.4) In addition to low eccentricity, it is important to make the number of compression members equal to that of tension members in each wall line, in arranging shear walls with braces.
