Abstract

Water immersion (2 days) and sand blasting were similarly effective for treating steel rebars for the purpose of improvement steel-concretebond strength and corrosion resistance of steel in concrete. The increase in bond strength is due to surface roughening in the case of sandblasting and the presence of a surface layer in the case of water immersion. The increase in corrosion resistance is due to the surface uniformity rendered by either treatment. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
