Abstract

Poly bis(p-propoxyphenyl)silane (PBPPS) was synthesized as an example of poly bis(alkoxyphenyl)silanes and the photoluminescence (PL) properties of spin-coated PBPPS films were studied. Though a temporal PL-intensity quenching takes place under ultraviolet light irradiation, we round an increase ofthe quenched PL intensity with a factor of 1.7 by a heat treatment at 120 degrees C for 15 min due to a thermal re-alignment of molecules in the film. The heat treatment was utilized to observe the electroluminescence of PBPPS from a PBPPS/Alq(3) double-layer device for the first time, indicating apossibility of poly bis(alkoxyphenyl)silanes toward light-emitting applications.
