Abstract

Prime code is one of the quasi-orthogonal codes for use in Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems. However, the detailed properties ofthe prime code have not been examined because of its complexity. This paper investigates the performance of prime code in OCDMA systems. The correlation properties of prime code and its probability density function are analyzed. Bit error rate (BER) is then derived for the case of the worst choice of codes and al so for the case of random choice. Simulation reveals that the results obtained in the analysis provide well-approximated BER. BER for prime code is compared with that for Optical Orthogonal Code (OOC) presented in Ref. 1. It is shown that prime code provides better performance than the OOC. (C) 2000 Scripts Technica.
