Abstract

Patient education is considered to be an essential part of asthma therapy. A "modularly structured education programme" contains customised supplementary modules for special patient groups in addition to providing general training for asthmatic patients. The following article reports about the experience with a modularly structured education program for allergic patients. In addition to the general programme, patients with a clinically relevant respiratory allergy underwent the additional allergy training programme, which consists of a basic knowledge module and 3 optional training modules (housedust mites, pollen, animals, molds). Thus, for each patient a customised training program is available. Special attention is spent on training practical knowledge and skills. The results of an evaluation show the effectiveness of the programme.
