Abstract

Effect of MnO2 addition on the (Pb0.76Ca0.24)[(Co0.5W0.5)(0.04)Ti-0.96]O-3ceramic system was investigated. Anisotropic properties of electromechanical coupling coefficient and piezoelectric coefficient proved to be varied with amount of MnO2 impurity and sintering temperature. The electromechanical coupling coefficients, k(t) of 49% and k(p) of near zero, which give riseto the maximum anisotropic property, k(t)/k(p), were obtained from the specimen with 1.5 mol% MnO2 sintered at 1150 degrees C. Similarly, the piezoelectric constant, g(33) showed the maximum values at the composition of 1.5 mol% MnO2 addition. Experimental results indicated that the PbTiO3 system ceramic with MnO2 impurity can be effectively used for the piezoelectric transformer application. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A.
