Abstract

The effects of Cr3+ substitution on dielectric, pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties of 0.66Pb(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O-3-0.34PbTiO(3) (PMT-PT) ceramics have been investigated: The calcined and sintered specimens have been characterized using XRD for phase analysis. The dielectric constant and loss of theceramic samples were determined. The pyroelectric coefficient was measuredusing the Byer-Roundy method as a function of temperature. Small amounts of Cr2O3 promoted grain growth of the solid solution system. Dielectric, pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties of the base composition were improved with addition of small amounts of Cr2O3. The dielectric and pyroelectric peak temperatures are continuously shifted to lower temperature with addition of small amounts of Cr2O3. The frequency dispersion and the diffuseness of phase transition increase as the amount of Cr2O3 in the composition increases.
