Abstract

A decrease of free O-2 content in distilled water and water salt solutionsunder microwave irradiation was observed. The reduced O-2 level persisted for a long time (up to several hours) after the elimination of the, field. The degree of the field influence on the O-2 content was determined by the presence of ions in water. The effect was lacking when bidistillate or deionized water were used in the experiments. The effect became evident after the addition of CaCl2 (at concentrations below 1 mu M) to deionized water. The greatest decrease in [O-2] (up to 5%) was observed in the physiological solution for vertebrates. The effects of a lesser degree were also observedin the solutions of CaCl2, MgCl2, NaCl, and other salts prepared on deionized water. The data obtained showed that, for the manifestation (or arising) of the nonthermal effect of the field, which shows up in a partially irreversible decrease of O-2 content, the presence of some alkaline metal ions and, possibly, some other nonidentified impurities is necessary.
