Abstract

The dependence of the sign of the multipole-mixing ratio delta(E2/M1)on the number of neutrons is considered for 2(2,3)(+)-2(1)(+) and 3(1)(+)-2(1)(+) transitions in even-even nuclei. It is inferred that, in terms of the IBA-2 model, the sign of delta is determined by the relationship between the parameters chi(pi)(Z) and chi(V)(N) in proton-neutron quadrupole-quadrupole interaction (Q(pi)Q(V)). According to this model, the opposite signs of delta for 2(2)(+)-2(1)(+) and 2(3)(+)-2(1)(+) transitions are due to the fact that the 2(3)(+) level lies higherthan the mixed-symmetry state or involves a substantial contribution from this state.
