Abstract

This study analyses the suitability of applying the coelectroosmotic and counterelectroosmotic capillary electrophoresis modes to separate phenolic compounds with prior electrokinetic injection. In the coelectroosmotic mode,the electroosmotic flow was reversed using a long-chained alkylammonium salt (hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAB). In these conditions, the addition of organic solvents (methanol, 1-propanol and acetonitrile) and the pH of the electrolyte were studied. The effect of adding salts to the samplematrix was also examined in the counterelectroosmotic mode, since an increase in the total conductivity of the sample generated an increase in the signal peaks when this mode was used. The linearity of phenolic compounds (between 0.3 and 30 mg L-1), correlation (r(2)) and relative standard deviations (between 1.1 and 5.1%) were determined, under the proposed operational conditions using electrokinetic injection in coelectroosmotic mode.
