Abstract

Two experiments were conducted to study the effects of various levels of feed restriction on the performance of Hy-Line W-36 hens at 56 and 79 wk. Nutrient levels (with the exception of energy) increased as the level of feedrestriction increased. Egg weights were not affected by any level of feed restriction in either experiment. Egg production decreased in Experiment 1 when hens received 86.3g of feed/day or less. Egg production decreased in Experiment 2 by 2 wk when feed was restricted to 76 g/bird/day and also by 2wk when hens were fed 67 g/hen/day. Body weight loss increased with each level of feed restriction in both experiments. In Experiment 1, heavy hens lost the most weight and light hens the last.
