Abstract

Despite the adjunctive use of such antimetabolites as 5-fluorouracil or mitomycin C with standard trabeculectomy surgery, inadequate intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction often occurs in eyes with refractory glaucoma. Glaucoma drainage implants, which consist of an alloplastic tube leading to a large, equatorial reservoir, offer an excellent alternative for eyes at high risk of failure with filtration surgery. This chapter reviews some of the recent developments in glaucoma drainage implant surgery, including surgical techniques, results, and management of complications.
