Abstract

A series of alpha-Fe2O3 catalysts inlaid in small pore resin was synthesized and used in the reaction of phenol hydroxylation with H2O2. The amount of Fe inlaid was measured by atomic absorption. The results of Mossbauer spectra indicated that alpha-Fe2O3 was the main state, and the average diameter was smaller than 5 nm. The conversion of phenol was about 24%, the selectivity of diphenol was higher than 90%, and the conversion of H2O2 almost reached 100% at the 3 : 1 molar ratio of phenol to H2O2. These results reached the values of Enichem' a technology in Italy.
