Abstract

This paper describes a systematic investigation of the influence of heat treatment parameters of the partial melting process on the microstructure, the superconducting transition and the transport critical current density (J(ct)) of electrophoretically deposited Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta/silver tapes (EPD Bi-2212/Ag tapes). The behavior of this material is found to differ from that of Ag-sheathed, dip-coated or doctor-blade-cast tapes. Our processing conditions herein described are favorable for the industrial manufacture oftape conductors. J(ct) values of 1.0 X 10(6) and 5.0 X 10(5) A/cm(2) at 4.2 K in an applied field of 0 and 15 T, respectively, is expected to be achievable in EPD Bi-2212/Ag tapes.
