Abstract

The mechanism of the appearance of an unreasonably high value of radiation-induced electrical polarization in the case of irradiation of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in the presence of oxygen is considered. The study of the time, field, temperature, and pressure dependences of isothermal depolarization has revealed an unusual effect: the formation of long-lived electron-hole pairs in the polymer volume. A model describing the kinetics of the stabilization of these pairs is suggested; the numerical analysis of the polarization parameters within the framework of the model is carried out, and these results are compared with experimental ones.
