Abstract

Using the patch voltage-clamp method, the influence of millimeter microwaves (42.25 GHz) on kinetic parameters of single Ca2+-activated K+ channels in cultured kidney cells Vero was studied. It was found that exposure to thefield of non-thermal power (about 100 mu W/cm(2)) for 20-30 min greatly modifies both open and closed times at the channel activity. Therewith, the dependencies of these parameters on internal Ca2+ and membrane voltage are greatly deteriorated. The data suggest that the field alters both cooperativity and binding characteristics of the channel activation by internal Ca2+.
