Abstract

The residual solvent contents in pharmaceutical powders are of the utmost importance. In a previous study on monocrystalline particles, we showed the influence of drying conditions on the residual content of volatile impurities. The aim of the second part of this work, concerning polycrystalline particles, is to point out the great importance of some factors affecting residual solvent concentration, such as the texture of the particles, the solvent state and also the thermodynamic events which can occur when the substance is heated. To this end, three types of polycrystalline particles (paracetamol, ibuprofen and meprobamate) were recrystallized in different liquid phases and then dried under various drying conditions (flash, drastic and progressive).
