Abstract

Similarities between Kawasaki disease and toxin diseases: namely Scarlet fever, staphylococcal, and streptococcal toxin shock syndromes have been noted in, the last few years. These toxins are super antigens which stimulate all T cells expressing V beta 2 receptors. Recent studies demonstrate a proliferation of T cells expressing V beta 2 receptors in Kawasaki disease. This proliferation is at its highest during theacute stage of the disease. Some authors have found streptococci or staphylococci producing toxins during Kawasaki disease. This toxin hypothesis has yet to be confirmed.
