Abstract

Two experiments on 7-day-old male chicken (middle heavy Messa 243 or Vedette hybrid), ducks (Barbarie or Mulard) and also Landaise 1. and 2. geese were simultaneously carried out. The birds were divided into three groups (consisted of 27 battery-cages in each experiment). The keeping conditions were the same. The animals were fed semi-ad libitum with two mixtures containing 54 % ground maize and wheat (I) or 40 % triticale (II). Calculated content of pentosanes in mixtures was at amount 27,9 or 32,8 g/kg and P-glucan 6,2 or 6,1 g/kg, respectively. The mixtures contained the crude protein in a mean of 22,5 %. The metabolizable energy level amounted at 11,2-11,4 MJ/kg of the mixture. The animals of all species were fed with control mixture (I), experimental mixture (II) or experimental mixture supplemented with 200 p.p.m. of Roxazyme. In each experiment two series of balances were carried out. At the end of each experiment after 2 h from feeding four birds were chosen from each cage and slaughtered. The digestive tracts were taken fromeach bird and the content from three intenstine parts (jejunum, ileumand caecum) was separately collected.The apparent digestibility of the structural substances (NDF, ADF, hemicellulose), the short-chain fatty acids concentration in the content of the three parts of intestinaltract, pH value of this content, share of acetic, propionic and butter acid in total SCFA and number of the micro-organisms in the mentioned parts of the intenstine in young chicks, ducks and geese were estimated. In young chicks, ducks and geese fed with the triticale diet no negative effects were observed. Forty-percent content of the triticale influenced the digestibility of structural substances. Messa hybrids digested the NDF about 21 % better than the Vedette chicks. Hemicellulose was digested better by chickens at a level of 10-12 % higher than other birds. Barbarie ducks were better at digesting the structural carbohydrates than Mulard ducks. Addition of enzymes improved the digestibility coefficients in mean of 3-12 %. High values of SCFA concentration were found in the caecum contents, especially in Vedette chicks (upto 186 mmol/kg) and in Mulard ducks (up to 188 mmol/kg). Feeding withtriticale or triticale+enzyme diets increased the production of the SCFA in all bird species. However, this tendency of differentation between groups is nor clear. In Messa or Vedette chickens and in Landaise 2. geese only, the enzyme supplementation caused an improvement in theSCFA synthesis. The kind of the rations exerted only limited influence on the number of micro-organisms in the intestinal content. In the jejunum and also in following parts of intestinal tracts low values were observed.
