Abstract

The influence of Eysenek's basic dimensions of personality on precision of timing has been investigated by means of stepwise prediction configural frequency analysis. For this purpose a sample of N = 48 male subjects was tested by the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised (EPQ-R) and two temporal discrimination tasks. While precision of tinting of brief intervals in the range of milliseconds was found to be unrelated to EPQ-R scale patterns or single EPQ-R scales, precision of tinting of longer intervals ranging from 1 to 2 seconds was shown to be significantly associated with the personality dimension of psychoticism(P). Precision of timing was much better in high-P than in low-P subjects. Furthermore, introverted low-P subjects performed more poorly than subjects of all the other EPQ-R configurations.
