Abstract

We report on a 35-year-old female patient who suffered from abdominalpain, flatulence, and diarrhea after intake of milk or products containing milk. There was no sign of lactose intolerance or other forms ofmaldigestions. The cutaneous tests were negative. Double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges with testfood portions containing milk products confirmed former given descriptions of her symptoms. The lymphocyte stimulation test with milk and powdered skimmed milk showed stimulations according to a T cell-mediated mechanism. We discuss the sequence of the diagnostic procedure, the possible differential diagnosis, the results of the allergologic and immunologic examinations, and possibilities of treatment of this rare form of cow's milk allergy.
