Abstract

The new analysis method of response mechanism of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) using resonant frequency-resonant resistance (F-R) diagram has been studied. The resonant resistance, which represents the qualitative changes (or viscoelasty change) of organic material on quartzcrystal, was derived using electrical equivalant circuit of quartz crystal. Also to control the response of organic vapours, the adsorptionand desorption pattern were investigated as to the change of the limiting area of polymeric LB film. As the results, the detail adsorption and desorption behaviors of organic vapours at the air/polymeric LB film interface could be obtained using both resonant resistance and resonant frequency of quartz crystal. These behaviors of organic vapours were dependent on the defect size (or the occupied area per molecular) of the polymeric LB film. The more complex behaviors were observed in polymeric LB film with large limiting area.
