Abstract

Pulsed magnetic treatment is an entirely new method of reducing residual stress without heating. The tests show that proper strong pulsed magnetic treatment can lead to stress relaxation in both rigid restrained tensile specimens and welded specimens. The longitudinal and the transverse residual-stress distributions in the welded specimens indicate a general reduction. In addition, the magnetic treatment cycles havean influence on the ratio of stress reduction. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
