Abstract

We studied the high-field magnetization in RCu2 (R = Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Dy, Tb and Ho) with the orthorhombic CeCu2-type crystal structure. The field-induced metamagnetic transition due to the switching of the different magneticanisotropy states was observed in RCu2 (R = Ce, Pr, Dy and Tb). The originof the transition is analyzed theoretically on the basis of the quadrupolar interaction and crystalline electric field. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
