Abstract

Leafy shoots of cauliflower were produced from hypocotyl segments, curd branches (debarassed of existing meristems) and intact curd pieces submitted to various basal media. Adventitious shoot production and axillary bud break exhibited very different nutritive requirements. In each case, an interaction between the plant growth regulators and the composition of the basal medium was discovered. Propagation from curd pieces was dependent on the interaction between plant growth regulators and high sucrose-to-macronutrientsratio in the medium. A medium containing 168 mM sucrose, supplemented with2.5 mu M N-6-benzyladenine and 5 mu M naphthaleneacetic acid allowed the production of numerous shoots without any hyperhydric symptoms.
